18th Welcome to the Mughunter Tournament! This tradition at Hayden Lake is a popular competition for children. In 1937, Mahlon B. Rucker, a Spokane businessman and summer resident of Hayden, thought youngsters needed some additional incentive to stick with the game of golf. He decided they needed a tournament of their own, a competition with a place for all levels of golfing skill. The trophy was simple - a 20 cent tin mug from the local five-and-dime store, which was hand-painted by a local artist. The field that first year was small - five 13 and 14-year-olds - but the competition was spirited. All five got their names inscribed on the cup's painted surface, and for years thereafter the cup served as the symbol of a tournament that grew to impressive and distinctive dimensions. The trophy inspired a name for the event: the Mughunter Tournament. Our goal continues to be the encouragement of good golf etiquette, good sportsmanship and good golfing skills. We're looking forward to another year of fun for the kids! Your Mughunter Committee 2007 Mughunter Championship Match 2007 Championship Flight Winner: Ryley Enich and
