The Hayden Lake Country Club Mughunters got its start in 1937 when Mahlon Rucker, a long-time member, decided that HLCC young golfers needed their own tournament. The competition got its name from the original trophy, a simple tin coffee mug, hand-decorated with cartoons and garlands by a local artist. From the start, the Mughunter tournament was based on handicaps so that everyone in an age category was on equal footing. For more on the history of Mughunters at the club, click on the link below.
Mughunters continues to be an important part of the HLCC tradition, providing not only fun and skill-building for young players, but also a wonderful exhibition of fine competition.
Today, the Mughunter field includes a range of age divisions:
Grasscutters: 3-hole matches
Sandblasters: 5-hole matches
Divotdiggers: 9-hole matches
ForeTeeners: 14-hole matches
Mughunters: 18-hole matches
